Guillermo del Toro's fantasy romance, "The Shape of Water", was the top film victor with four awards.
While accepting the Best Picture honour, filmmaker del Toro praised the women who made "The Shape Of Water" possible, including stars Sally Hawkins and Octavia Spencer, reports the Entertainment Weekly.
The 23rd Critics' Choice Awards were organised by the Broadcast Film Critics Association and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association and were held at the Barker Hangar, in Santa Monica, California. "I do believe and I hope that we can elicit change through the stories we tell and the way we tell them".
"In my life, I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I've done", Franco told Colbert on Tuesday.
The Best Comedy Movie honor went to The Big Sick and Wonder Woman was deemed Best Action Movie.
"These awards are time for people to be celebrated for their work, and also these awards are kind of like promotions for people: everyone can get more money for having awards to their name", she said.
'If something feels like the right joke or the right bit, then we'll go there, but my style is not to shock. "The biggest comedy was a female ensemble, 'Girls Trip, ' and the biggest independent movie was written and directed by Greta Gerwig".
