Speaking to a gathering of foreign journalists on Wednesday evening, Netanyahu said he was disappointed that India voted in favor of the resolution at the UN General Assembly condemning the U.S. decision to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

"India has long-lasting and wide-ranging defense cooperation with Israel".

Netanyahu said that last July's visit to Israel by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was "a very important milestone, and my visit will see an expansion of economic and other ties". His visit comes nearly 15 years after the first visit by the then prime minister Ariel Sharon in 2003.

Several MoUs, including in the field of oil and gas, renewable energy, amended protocol for airports, cyber security, co-production of films and documentaries will be signed between the two sides.

Without confirming whether an agreement for Israeli Spike missiles will be signed during Netanyahu's visit, Carmon said the Spike project is an example of "Israel engaging in Make in India" because it can be implemented through partnership between an Israeli company and Indian firm.

Informed sources here said that this relates to sharing of knowledge in the field of homoeopathy and ayurveda that have been gaining popularity in Israel over the last few years.

The revived deal, reported days before Israel's prime minister was due in Delhi, involves the sale of 8,000 Spike missiles through a government-to-government scheme, which stipulates any weapons bought have to be "battle proven".

Netanyahu will be the third head of state to land in Ahmedabad, after Chinese President Xi Jinping and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. A press release from the Embassy of Israel in Delhi said that Mr. Netanyahu will also visit the iCreate innovation campus and centre.

Netanyahu would be arriving in Mumbai on Wednesday in the evening where he would be meeting with the Indian Jewish community.
