Lukaku out just one week says Mourinho

Former Manchester United manager Ron Atkinson believes Jose Mourinho did something drastic during half time to get a reaction from his players against Everton on New Year's Day. He has been stressing on the fact that the club has spent money on important players like Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku but nothing like the amount on a collective level like City.

They didn't miss the Belgian global too much as goals from Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard gave the away side a 2-0 win.

WHEN they gave Paul Scholes a football, he made it talk with his imagination and intelligence, lighting up lives as the greatest footballers do.

United are still 12 points adrift of their Manchester rivals, but Mourinho, who has criticised his stars recently, took heart from the way his players battled to subdue Everton.

Ahead of United's 0-0 draw against Southampton in the final game of 2017, Gary Neville addressed a crowd at Hotel Football during the prematch meal.

However, the forward's injury may not be as bad as first feared, with Mourinho considering him to be part of the squad to host Derby at Old Trafford this weekend. That does not mean we all have to be phenomenal.

"If Paul one day decides to be a manager I wish that he can be 25 per cent as successful as myself, because 25% of 25 is around six". If he's 25%, he'll be quite happy.

Scholes criticized both the player and the manager.

Manchester United travelled to Goodison Park to face Everton and José Mourinho revealed what Lukaku told him before the clash with his former club.

Speaking after Saturday's 0-0 draw with Southampton, Scholes said: "He doesn't look like a player who will win you games - that's what you pay £90m for". We tried to take the game to Manchester United whenever we could but the disappointing thing was the start of the second half and allowing that first goal to go in. Paul Pogba teed up Martial on the edge of the area and he stroked a sublime finish into the top corner for his ninth goal of the season.

Everton tried to respond but Lingard ended their hopes as he doubled United's lead, and lifted them back to second in the Premier League, with a superb individual effort.

Lingard was risky throughout and got the goal he deserved, his seventh in his last nine league games, to show why he is now keeping Henrikh Mkhitaryan out of the team.
