Real Madrid's La Liga woes continued this afternoon when they slipped to a 1-0 defeat, at the Bernabeu, to a talented Villarreal side.

Madrid had a penalty appeal waved away in the first half when visiting defender, Alvaro Gonzalez, appeared to block a shot from Gareth Bale with his arm.

Fourth-placed Real Madrid, who won last season's La Liga title and the Champions League, remain 16 points behind leaders Barcelona - and that gap could increase when Barca visit Real Sociedad on Sunday (19:45 GMT).

The master scene in the game was three minutes before the final whistle when Villarreal midfielder Pablo Fornals scored the only goal in the game and secured the three points for his team.

Speaking to beIN SPORTS, he said: "I do not know [what happened] really".

"I'm exhausted of hearing about how badly we're playing", the Frenchman said ahead of a La Liga match against Villarreal on Friday.

Madrid need a huge points swing to reel in Barca, but Nacho - while admitting time is fast running out - is refusing to throw in the towel. The goalkeeper himself wants to play in Real Madrid, but Manchester United hinders to his transfer in every possible way.

"We have the cup this week and we are very excited to keep fighting".
