Cinemark implements new policy banning large bags in theaters

The new policy comes a week after the school shooting in Parkland, Florida that left 17 people dead, and almost six years after a gunman opened fire at a Cinemark-owned Century movie theater in Aurora, Colorado, killing 12.

According to Cinemark's new policy, any bags that are bigger than 12 inches by 12 inches by 6 inches will not be allowed into theaters. The only exception: medical equipment bags and diaper bags.

The corporation owns 339 theaters and 4,562 screens in 41 states.

Cinemark says it took the step to "enhance the safety and security of guests and employees". Regal Entertainment Group told its staff in 2015 to start inspecting bags that were coming into the theater.

The Cinemark and XD theater in Temple is located at 4501 S. General Bruce Drive, and the Cinemark at Harker Heights is located at 201 E. Central Texas Expressway.
