The Pelicans announced shortly before tipoff that five-time All-Star forward Anthony Davis was diagnosed with a sprained left ankle and will miss Friday's game.

Without Davis and center DeMarcus Cousins, the Pelicans will have lean heavily on recently acquired center Emeka Okafor and on forwards Nikola Mirotic and Cheick Diallo, who have been major contributors during the streak.

"I feel fine", Davis said Wednesday night. They can both shoot, so the floor isn't as clogged as you might think it would be with a pair of bigs like that, but it's not as spaced as it could be either. New Orleans was out-rebounded 49-38 and only had 4 second chance points on 2 offensive rebounds.

"Yeah, it hurts", said Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday. It was eventually revealed that Davis suffered a sprained ankle, which was relatively good news, because the injury looked really nasty at the time.

The Wizards are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 road games, 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 2 days rest and 11-5-1 ATS in their last 17 games overall. When All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins went down against the Houston Rockets on January 26, the playoffs were looking to be nothing but a slim chance.

Against the Kings, Mirotic and Holiday combined for 49 points. "It's been fun. Those guys have been unbelievable".

Although X-rays taken on Davis' ankle were negative, coach Alvin Gentry sounded cautious. "It's not so much him getting 40 points for us, it's his presence out there making the game easier for everyone else".

After Friday's contest, the Pelicans host the Jazz Sunday afternoon and Hornets Tuesday night. He is listed as day to day. This was the first game of a back-to-back for Washington, who play the Heat on Saturday. "We didn't get into that flow where he can catch the ball and do some things with it". While the effort was there early, the Pelicans couldn't overcome their missing parts against a tough Wizards team and lost in blowout fashion.

Anthony Davis has been at the heart of New Orleans' franchise record-tying 10-game winning streak. "We've just got to slow them down and get two road wins".
