National Football League free agency rumors: TE Trey Burton to sign with Bears

Considering that the cash-strapped Eagles have Pro Bowl tight end Zach Ertz under contract through 2020, it was logical to assume Burton would find a home elsewhere in the league.

Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network first reported the signing, which is expected to get finalized after free agency officially opens Wednesday.

Burton, 26, has a special place in Eagles history because of his role in the " Philly Special". This past season, Burton finished with 23 catches for 248 yards and a career-high five touchdowns.

In his second season in Jacksonville in 2015, Robinson caught 80 passes for 1,400 yards, and an NFL-leading 14 touchdowns. It was a critical score in a 41-33 victory over the Patriots that gave Philadelphia their first Super Bowl title. In addition to Burton, the Bears added Allen Robinson to their talent-bare pass-catching corps on Tuesday.

Look for him to slot in as Chicago's top tight end ahead of Dion Sims, and he could also emerge as a chief target in the passing game if wide receiver Cameron Meredith leaves in free agency.

The dual tight end thing is interesting: Shaheen was a pretty high draft pick for Chicago previous year and considered a "Baby Gronk" type.

In one of the more surprising moves of the legal tampering period, the Chicago Bears have agreed to terms with tight end Trey Burton on a four-year deal worth $32 million.
