Schefter: Star Lotulelei to sign with Buffalo

The news follows reports the Bills will sign Panthers defensive tackle Star Lotulelei to a five-year deal. According to Schefter, Lotulelei's deal will be for five years.

Defensive tackle was a big question mark for the Bills entering this offseason.

The signing will help the Bills along the defensive front which suffered greatly after they traded Marcell Dareus to the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

A first-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, Lotulelei has been with the Carolina Panthers for the first five years of his career. Williams, 34, has been contemplating his playing future this offseason.

"You know how I feel about Kyle and what he's meant to our community in Buffalo over the years and what he's meant to our football team", coach Sean McDermott said at the Scouting Combine last month. A year ago he had 1.5 sacks and 25 total tackles for Carolina.

Former general manager Dave Gettleman, who was sacked in July, picked defensive tackle Vernon Butler in the first round of the 2016 draft, knowing it would be tough to give big contracts to both Short and Lotulelei. Over the course of his 12 appearances from a season ago, Hitchens produced a single-season career-high 84 total tackles alongside one forced fumble and two pass defenses.
