The smartphone major has been teasing the upcoming smartphone on its social media platforms since few days. The company explains that the yet-to-announced Redmi device will be "powerhouse" as it uses the hashtag #CompactPowerhouse to describe the device.
After the success of Redmi 5, Xiaomi India last week announced that it will launch its latest budget smartphone Redmi 5 in India on March 14. The company had started with MIUI 9 Global ROM for Mi Mix 2 in November last year and since then it has expanded the release to several devices including the four-year-old Redmi 1s and Mi 3 series. The Redmi 4 was introduced in three RAM and storage variants: 2GB/16GB, 3GB/32GB and 4GB/64GB for a price of Rs 6,999, Rs 8,999 and Rs 10,999 respectively. However, the storage can be extended with a MicroSD card.
Xiaomi is launching a new smartphone in India today, which is likely the Redmi 5. In India, Redmi 5 is expected to slot in between the entry-level Redmi 5A and the Redmi Note 5. So, one can expect the 2GB + 16GB variant to be priced around Rs. 7000 and the 3GB + 32GB variant to be priced at around Rs. 8500.
The handset features a 5.99-inch FHD+ (2160x1080) display with an 18:9 aspect ratio and Corning Gorilla Glass for protection. The two speaker grills are placed on either side of the charging port and there's also the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top edge of the device. The Redmi 5a Prime has a hybrid 32GB ROM and a 3GB RAM while its counterpart, the Redmi 5a houses 16GB ROM and 2GB RAM. The other goodies on board the Redmi 5 are Android 7.1 Nougat topped with MIUI 9, 4G VoLTE, dual SIM support and a 3300mAh battery. It sports a 12-MP rear camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, and LED flash.
