Apple Inc. on Tuesday said it added support for its Pencil digital stylus to its entry-level iPad as the device maker tries to shore up its dwindling share of the USA education market. But other than updated software in the form of refreshed Pages, Numbers and Keynote app, there's not a huge amount to make you rush out and buy this iPad if you have one from 2017.
"Apple tells us they chose Chicago Public Schools and Lane Tech because of our reputation as a leader in incorporating technology into our classrooms and curriculum", Lane Tech High School told students in an email. It's there that Apple's already revealed what they'll bring to schools in the near future.
In elementary and high schools, Apple has gone from teacher's pet to the back of the class. Users can create interactive digital books, from short stories to travel books, using a variety of templates and then customize them with drawings using iWork's new drawing tools or with image galleries and videos from their Photos library. Microsoft accounted for roughly 22 percent.
Apple's update addresses some of what's helped Chromebooks leap ahead, but not all of it.
The firm's education-focused Spring 2018 event will push "creative new ideas for teachers and students" according to invites sent to members of the media.

The calligraphy-styled logo in the event's invite along with the education focus suggest that Apple will be introducing a new Pencil, which will be compatible with the upcoming affordable iPads. The introduction of gold-coloured iPad also gives us an indication that the iPhone X will also be made available in a new gold colour very soon. Apple devices make up just 17% of the education marketshare.
