Kathua rape case: PDP thanks countrymen for supporting Jammu and Kashmir

He said the resignation letters were now being forwarded to Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Mehbooba also wrote to the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir High Court seeking a fast track court in the case.

"We will discuss the agenda of meeting after the meeting", Kaul said.

"Two cabinet ministers of BJP and others openly tried to cover up the heinous gang-rape and brutal murder case of 8-year-old nomad girl Asifa and shield the culprits".

Kathua rape-murder case: The body of the girl was recovered from Rassana forest on January 17, a week after she went missing while grazing horses in the forest area.

Mehbooba Mufti also chaired a meeting of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) legislators and senior ministers in Srinagar.

The girl was attacked to scare away the nomadic Muslim community out of the village.

BJP spokesman Ashok Kaul told Firstpost that the meeting would take place at the saffron party's office and all the leaders would attend the meeting, including the two leaders who have sent in their resignations.

Sources said that in their resignation letters, sources said, Lal Singh and Chander Prakash Ganga stated that they were offering resignations to the State party president as they felt that image of the party has been dented by the propaganda unleashed against them.

Pressure has been mounting on Mehbooba Mufti to end alliance with the BJP after two BJP leaders were accused of defending Kathua rapists.

To a question that the two ministers had participated in the rally in support of the accused in the rape case where the national tricolour was being waved, Madhav said, "That is why they had to resign".

"We will never ever let another child suffer this way".

"Certain amount of discretion should have been maintained".

"What rubbish! They are HER ministers, not the Hon (ourable) PM s".

She also called for exemplary punishment for those responsible for the crime.

Madhav accused the Congress party of playing double standards.
