Services ran normal on Line-2 during Modis travel, he said.

The Prime Minister boarded the metro at Lok Kalyan Marg station to reach 26, Alipur Road, where he inaugurated Dr Ambedkar National Memorial.

"Prime Minister Narendra Modi today travelled by Delhi Metro from Lok Kalyan Marg station to Vidhan Sabha station of Line-2 (Yellow Line) from 5:41 pm to 6:01 pm", a DMRC official said. The PM also obliged fellow commuters and clicked selfies with them during the Metro ride.

PM Modi further pointed out that Baba Saheb was a well-educated man, who could have lived a luxurious life in any part of the developed world but chose to live and work for upliftment of the Dalits and to fight for their rights.

26 Alipur Road, the home where Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar breathed his last, is also known as Mahaparinirvana Bhoomi.

"The Prime Minister's choice to launch his most ambitious programme of Ayushman Bharat from the tribal district that is counted among the most backward districts of the country and that too on the birth anniversary of Ambedkarji is very significant", Dinesh Kashyap, BJP MP from Bastar, told IANS.

"Prime Minister @narendramodi had laid the foundation stone of the memorial on March 21, 2016".

The memorial has been given the shape of a book.

The AAP will "gherao" prime minister Narendra Modi's residence in New Delhi on Sunday over what it said on Friday was his silence on the rapes in Unnao and Kathua. A Bodhi Tree, a musical fountain and a facade lighting are the other attractions of the memorial.

He said this would send a clear message that the Prime Minister does not discriminate and his focus on "sabka saath, sabka vikas" is not a mere slogan.
