Fake Doctor Caught at AIIMS

AIIMS debars professor after PhD student attempts suicide

Fake Doctor Caught at AIIMS

Using his fake identity, he made friends among many other medical students only to be busted in the end.

The police were surprised with his elaborate knowledge about medicine but that doesn't excuse his lack of qualification to be a doctor.

"In a recent letter to the authorities of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), the Resident Doctors" Association (RDA) showed concern over an imposter on the campus, impersonating a junior resident doctor.

Identified as Adnan Khurram, a native of Bihar, he was accused for impersonating as an AIIMS doctor for at least five months. During questioning, he told police that he chose to pose as a doctor as his sister had to wait for ages to get an appointment with a doctor. During the questioning, Khurram has been frequently changing his statements. But later, he has reported to have said that he used to do so because he liked the company of doctors and wanted to be a doctor. In one of his reasons is that he had to help a family member get preferential treatment.

"Khurram has been observing his activities in the campus for the past many months so I chose to keep a watch at him".

The police said Khurram had no criminal record.

Meanwhile, a case under sections 419 (impersonation) and 468 (forgery for objective of cheating) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against Khurram at the Hauz Khas police station. The report also quoted Dr Abhishek Singh, who is the vice-president of the Resident Doctors' Association saying that the impersonator had used the name and clout of Resident Doctors Association and attended political and medical conferences.

He then started introducing himself as a junior resident to seniors, and as an undergraduate student to juniors.

Police said Adnan Khurram posted photos on social media with a stethoscope. "He made his way to the WhatsApp grpups of the doctors as well".

There are 2,000 resident doctors at AIIMS, so it's hard to know everyone.

On Saturday, when he the accused Khurram participated in a marathon organised by the doctors, some doctors got suspicious and asked him about his identity. As he was not able to answer questions from the doctors in a satisfactory manner, he was arrested by the police.

There were also photographs of him with politicians.
