Liriano will not make his scheduled start Sunday against the Yankees as the game has been postponed due to inclement weather, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Opening Day on March 29 was postponed until March 30.The team's second game of the season on March 31 was postponed until April 1, when the Tigers and Pirates played a split doubleheader.
Locally, the Lansing Lugnuts were scheduled for a first pitch at 6:05 p.m. ET against the West Michigan Whitecaps. Both games will be televised on FOX Sports Detroit. The Tigers were scheduled to be off, while the Yankees would have been traveling between games in Baltimore and Toronto. When they take the field on Tuesday, they will have had three full days off, a rarity in baseball's regular season.
The teams had originally moved Saturday's rained-out contest to Sunday night as part of a split doubleheader, but rain has continued to hit the Detroit area.
In both those cases, no ticket exchange is necessary.
The Yankees and Tigers will try to play a split doubleheader on Sunday.
If you count rain-outs of rescheduled games, today marked the fifth and sixth times the Tigers have lost a home game to weather this season.
