Jeter plans to avoid Yankee Stadium during Marlins' visit

Giancarlo Stanton says he has no 'crazy bad blood' with Derek Jeter

Giancarlo Stanton says he has no 'crazy bad blood' with Derek Jeter

Jeter reminded reporters (per he attended the Yankees-Marlins exhibition in Jupiter, Fla., in March, but the media contingent in NY will be a tad larger (and more, let's say, curious) than the group that was in Palm Beach County a month ago.

If that deprived Stanton of getting used to his new surroundings at Yankee Stadium, his acclimation to NY has also taken place on the fly.

"It would be an awkward situation for me to actually go to Yankee Stadium", he said. "I think it's your natural instinct when you move in somewhere to try to get it set up as quickly possible". It'll be the first time in Giancarlo Stanton's career he plays against the Marlins.

"I think reporting it this way gives us an opportunity to show some growth over time", he said.

It was its lowest reported totals since 2006, and the lowest since moving to Marlins Park in 2012.

A Yankees legend turned Marlins CEO/part-owner, Jeter revealed his plans late last week when talking to reporters in Miami.

But the Marlins' new chief executive officer vowed to continue counting only tickets sold when reporting attendance numbers.

Having a more accurate count is something the new ownership group, led by Jeter, seeks. I knew it was going to be a story, one way or the other.

"Our number one priority is how we can increase the attendance in this market", Jeter said.

"We're not happy with it", Jeter said. It's going to be a while before Jeter gets them to a competitive level again.

The Marlins were 3-9 entering Friday and averaged fewer than 7,000 fans in attendance during a weekend series against the New York Mets. We have to win some more games. "You put a winning product on the field and people come". "We have some exciting young players and hopefully we can get on a little streak starting tonight".

Quotable: "I mean, I don't think there's any insane bad blood beside what (the media) stirred up", Stanton said. "We have to win these games". We're developing a winning culture. So I think you at least let it go three or four weeks before you start passing out judgment. No one's happy about the results. But I like the approach.

If you believe the rumors, Jeter's relationship with the Yankees has been strained since the 2013 offseason when his final-season contract negotiations didn't go smoothly.
