The first batch of Sega Ages titles will be available this summer and consists of five classic games: the Master System versions of Phantasy Star and Alex Kidd in Miracle World; the Genesis versions of Sonic the Hedgehog and Thunder Force IV; and the arcade version of Gain Ground.
SEGA Ages is a series of classic SEGA titles being released on the Nintendo Switch. While The Big N continues to drag its feet on any sort of Switch Virtual Console, Sega has revealed it will be reviving the Sega Ages series on the system. The section about the Pokemon Nintendo Switch game suggests that the upcoming game will feature brand new generation eight Pokemon.
Some additional details about some of the games to be featured in SEGA AGES were revealed at SEGA Fes 2018 in a panel after the announcement. Meanwhile, Sonic the Hegdehog, Gain Ground, and Thunder Force IV are SEGA Genesis titles; Sonic the Hedgehog and Gain Ground came out in 1991, while Thunder Force IV hit store shelves in 1992.
Some of you may remember that SEGA AGES originally launched on the SEGA Saturn in 1996 in Japan, bringing enhanced arcade ports of Puzzle & Action: Tant-R and Quiz Shukudai wo Wasuremashita to home consoles.
The last time Sega released new hardware was 2001 with the Sega Dreamcast, but after the successes of the NES Classic, the Famicom Mini, and the SNES Classic, Sega's COO has said they want to get back into releasing hardware. These will be released on the Switch eShop individually.
