Unnao gangrape case: CM Yogi assures "Strict action would be taken"

The infamous "tandoor case" involved former Youth Congress leader Sushil Sharma, who is serving a life term for the murder of his wife, Naina Sahni, in which the body of the victim was disposed of by putting it in the tandoor of a restaurant in the national capital in 1995. The accused was held by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for scrutinising goal on early Friday morning. Reporting to media persons CM Yogi said, "The accused will not be spared, doesn't matter how influential he is".

The process of recommending a CBI inquiry was promptly completed, the central probe agency had already taken over the case and detained the accused MLA for questioning, he pointed out. He said the high court was taken aback by the insensitive stand and callous attitude of the Advocate General, who represented the state government in court and received his brief from the highest levels.

The Lok Gathbandhan Party (LGP) on Friday said the Unnao rape case involving BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Senger, has badly exposed declining law and order situation in the state. Adityanath is a disgrace to Indian politics, and he is unfit to be the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. The CM had also made a decision to expel two MLAs from Unnao.

Later on Sunday, her father was picked up by the police and allegedly beaten up in custody by the MLA's brother Atul Singh and his aides, following which he died.

"The investigation has been handed over to the CBI".

Sengar was asked to join the investigation when he was about to leave for Varanasi.

He was quoted saying by ANI: "Father of Unnao victim has died, the girl is threatening to immolate herself". The teen from Unnao has accused the BJP UP MLA of raping her in June 2017.
