Meeting in the resort town of Tsakhkadzor today the Executive Body and the Board of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (HHK) has formally chose to nominate the party chairman Serzh Sargsyan for the post of prime minister. At the same time, they claim that this is a peaceful demonstration, apologizing to the citizens for inconvenience, arguing that in this way they save them from more trouble, what they will face when Serzh Sargsyan comes to power again. This is why Pashinyan has called on people to come out onto the streets and join his movement, which wants about 100,000 people to join in in order to surround the parliament building to prevent the vote scheduled for 17 April which will elect the country's next prime minister.
Serzh Sarkisian had promised in 2014 that he would "not aspire" to the post of prime minister if Armenia switched from a presidential to a parliamentary system as a result of the referendum. This is how the opposition hopes to change up the composition of the assembly and break the ruling party's majority.
