The result represents a slope for Team Nigeria who finished at eighth position at the last edition of the games in 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Seven has slammed the host broadcaster and organising committee of the Commonwealth Games following an issue with the broadcast of its closing ceremony.

Mr Beattie tweeted an apology on Monday morning. They were way too long tonight. I was part of that and I acknowledge it.

"So far, they have not disappointed us though we had one or two errors that had been corrected so that others won't fall victim again", he said.

"I have won everything and all of my medals are very important". I should not have spoken. "If we can get such results in our first global appearance, it means we can do more", he said.

"One of the problems is when you've got thousands of athletes, where do you put them?" he said.

"At previous ceremonies athletes were herded around, they stand around, they hate it, they get bored, often they don't go", he said.

"This is the first time I will be India's flag-bearer in an event like this".

Sunrise's David Koch called Mr Beattie out over the excuse of considering the "welfare of athletes", with previous closing ceremonies always featuring the athletes.

"When I decide something with my head and heart than even my husband can not stop me". Beattie said he planned to apologize to Fearnley.

"I think either way they were going to do it, there was going to be quite a bit of standing around", he told Channel 7. "We can only show the pictures that are provided by the actual host broadcasters", she said.

Inexplicably, after being elected flag bearer at the closing ceremony, para-sports gold medallist Kurt Fearnley barely featured on our screens, despite it being the moment that all Aussies were waiting for following his T54 marathon victory. Many athletes were seen leaving the stadium while the closing speeches were still in progress, reports Xinhua news agency. "They made a decision not to have athletes enter the stadium". We missed out on all of that.

The ceremony was largely panned on social media, with critics upset about the lack of focus on athletes, quality of the musical performances, speeches and the length of the event.

There are also medals up for grabs in rugby sevens, badminton, basketball, netball and table tennis before the closing ceremony at Carrara Stadium.

On the swimming scene, coach Riddin said he had been told by Swimming SA that he would be credited as a personal coach for Tandy and "to celebrate my 40th year of coaching I chose to take the trip to the Gold Coast as I felt Brad was definitely in contention for a medal".

But as the officials point out, these Games are relevant as they help improve the standard of sports in participating countries.
