Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has condemned joint airstrikes by the USA, the United Kingdom and France on Syria as "crime", describing the leaders of the three Western states as "criminals", PressTV reports.
Putin added Russian Federation would convene an emergency session of the United Nations Security Council in response.
"Without the sanction of the UN Security Council, in breach of the UN charter and the norms and principles of worldwide law, an act of aggression was committed against a sovereign state", the Kremlin said.
Putin said Russian investigators have found no evidence of a chemical attack in Douma.
The Pentagon said the strikes, which began at 4am Syrian time (9pm EST), involved planes and ship-launched missiles and destroyed three targets: a chemical weapons storage facility west of Homs, another storage site and command post nearby, and a scientific research center in Damascus. Moscow condemned the Western states for refusing to wait for OPCW's findings before attacking.
"After examining the videos and images of victims published online, they (intelligence services) were able to conclude with a high degree of confidence that the vast majority are recent and not fabricated", the report said.
The report quotes Khamenei as calling the leaders of the United States, Britain and France - the countries that launched the attack - "criminals". People clashed with security forces in cities large and small, chanting their disapproval of the waste of their money in Lebanon and Syria, and demanding regime change. Financially, Iran has provided the regime with financial support totaling at least $6 billion annually through mid-2015.
The US and its European allies chose three targets instead of the single air base hit previous year and used twice as many weapons.
"The missile attack on Syria was aimed at defending the US's lost dignity", the top lawmaker added.
