Probably not coincidentally, this little public statement comes ON THE EXACT SAME DAY as a new report - also out in WaPo - that details how an unnamed Today show staffer once confided in host Ann Curry back in 2012 about being "sexually harassed physically" by Lauer. The woman was concerned that coming forward with the accusations against Lauer, who had been with NBC for more than 20 years at the time of his firing, would cause her to lose her job, Curry said. "However I want to make it perfectly clear that any allegations or reports of coercive, aggressive or abusive actions on my part, at any time, are absolutely false". "I remained silent in an try to guard my household from additional embarrassment and to revive a small diploma of the privateness they've misplaced".
In the statement released by The Washington Post, Lauer revealed he chose to break his silence in order to defend his family from the lies that have been spread about the reason behind his termination from NBC.
Curry also added that she witnessed "pervasive verbal sexual harassment at NBC", though it's likely Curry has a nondisclosure agreement with the network that prevents her from speaking more specifically at length about what she saw.
The anonymous female staffer confirmed the story to the Post, but a representative for NBC told the paper that there's no record of the warning-or any note of it in Lauer's personnel file.
"I fully acknowledge that I acted inappropriately as a husband, father and principal at NBC", he continued. Curry officially left "Today" and the network in 2012 due to falling ratings, but sources speculated she and co-host Lauer lacked chemistry and he forced her out.
Lauer was sacked in November following complaints of sexual harassment. Those revelations included a door-locking button on Lauer's desk, which presented a awful look, and although there was word that many of his sexual relations in the workplace were consensual, women alleged that he exposed himself to them in his office and even gifted one of them a sex toy.
'A woman approached me and asked me tearfully if I could help her, ' Curry told The Washington Post. Ladies have additionally anonymously accused Lauer of sexual harassment and assault in experiences printed by Selection and The New York Instances. With that being said, it remains unknown if the network took any action to follow up Ann's report at that time.
One of those advances, she claims, was a forcible kiss.
