Carvalhal axed by Swansea after taking club to brink of relegation

Manager Carlos Carvalhal is set to leave Swansea at the end of the season, with the club facing nearly certain relegation from the Premier League, reports said on Thursday (May 10).

Carvalhal was sacked by Sheffield Wednesday a few days before he was appointed by Swansea.

However, Swansea's form has nosedived in recent weeks and a run of eight games without a win has left them facing nearly certain relegation.

Huddersfield needed a point to move out of reach of Swansea City - and achieved that despite Marcos Alonso canceling out Laurent Depoitre's opener.

"It would be wrong to raise the question (of a new deal) before the end of the season". If we still believe then we can stay (in the Premier League), we must do our part on the weekend and win the game.

"He is experienced, he is clever", Carvalhal said.

Darren Moore had overseen three wins and two draws in his five games in caretaker charge of West Brom, and their relegation has now been confirmed just hours after he was named April's Premier League Manager of the Month.

But the results dried up and Swansea have been dragged back into the bottom three. I saw him at Bournemouth and he looked void of ideas, the same against Southampton in the second half.

However, Roberts believes that Carvalhal has not been helped by the calibre of the squad at his disposal.

"No team is "too good to go down" and Mark Hughes seems to have reminded everyone of that, and I can only hope the team and the players have that in mind on Sunday and going into next season".

Millions of football fans up and down the country will be shedding a tear at the thought of no domestic football for a few months, as all eyes head to Russian Federation for the imminent World Cup, but there's still one final chance to grab yourself a bumper amount of cash, as the final Super 6 of the season takes place on Sunday afternoon, and we will try to point you in the right direction with our selections here. "Swansea expressed their intention to have negotiations to re-sign Ki if they stay in the first division".
