WhatsApp Groups Improved With New Features

The new version of the app for iOS and Android enables groups to add a description setting out the objective, guidelines and topics for the group chat.

The new feature will allow WhatsApp to rival the likes of Skype, but we don't know when it'll be rolling out to the wider user base.

WhatsApp has today announced a bunch of new features for group chats, making it easy for members to catch up on what they've missed, while giving additional controls to the administrators. The description will be shared with each new member of the WhatsApp group chat - allowing those having a discussion to stay on topic. The new features include the ability to set a group description, new controls for WhatsApp group admins, a mentions feature, as well as participant search. The new features are going to be of particular interest to larger groups, but it will appeal to smaller groups of chatters as well.

Another new tool allows administrators to choose whether or not to restrict changes to the subject, icon, and description.

Have you received the new WhatsApp update yet? In WhatsApp group admins now have the power to remove permissions for other group members. This should solve your daily conundrum with family WhatsApp Groups.

Ahead of elections in India this week, tens of thousands of WhatsApp groups have been made in an effort to reach voters, but many groups have been spreading misinformation and division between groups - especially Hindus and Muslims. Also called "group catch up", the feature lets users find those messages in which they have been mentioned, or those messages that reply to them.

Finally, WhatsApp users will be able to search for participants in a group, by visiting the Group info section within a group. To find these messages, WhatsApp group users will only have to tap the @ button that now appears at the bottom-right corner of the chat.

Following are the key features that have been added to revamp WhatsApp Group chat. WhatsApp says the tool is created to help users quickly get up to speed inside a group after being away from the chat.
