However, TV3 and Virgin Media failed to clarify whether their coverage of Europa and Uefa matches will be a free service or pay-to-view.
Previously, Champions League matches had been shared between RTÉ and TV3 on terrestrial television in Ireland and, while that is still the case, the carve-up has changed somewhat.
TVÉ previously held the rights to the Tuesday night matches and TV3 held the rights to Wednesday games.
The matches (on 16 and 26th May 2018) will also be available for free to watch in full 4K UltraHD (UHD) video streaming quality and BT Sport subscribers will separately benefit from 360 highlights on the app throughout the game (s).
This year's Europa League final between Marseille and Atletico Madrid takes place this weekend. First time subscribers can sign up today and get the first three months on the house. The commercial station has also won exclusive rights for all Europa League games, as well as the final round of Champions League qualifiers and European Super Cup.
When asked if the Champions League final would definitely be broadcast free-to-air on TV3, the spokesperson responded that more details will be revealed in the near future.
There's a summer of football ahead with the World Cup just around the corner. "The sports rights market continues to evolve and RTÉ is now competing against major worldwide companies both here and in the United Kingdom, both free and subscription, for the right to broadcast premium sports events in this country".
A spokesperson for Virgin told the Irish Independent: "Virgin Media and TV3 are simply announcing this landmark rights deal - which has just been established - and they will then be providing more information in due course". For everyone else, you'll be able to watch online at btsport.com/final or in UHD on YouTube, via the BT Sport app or on Virgin channel 100.
