CRAWFORD COUNTY, OH- As the unofficial start of summer, the Memorial Day holiday weekend kicks off a busy time for Americans. To help keep drivers and passengers safe, Crawford County is reminding motorists to Click It or Ticket. "Through continued enforcement and education, we hope to see more people taking the simple step of buckling up and fewer fatal crashes on Pennsylvania's roads". "If the enforcement crackdown wakes people up to the dangers of unrestrained driving and gets them to buckle up, we'll consider it a success". Xenia High School, the victor of the 2018 Spring High School Seat Belt Challenge, will be awarded with a check in the amount of $500, sponsored by All State Agent, Scott Pauley. This should be automatic.

According to a Washington Traffic Safety Commission report, Spokane and Whitman counties lag behind the state with observed seat belt use rates of 93.7 percent and 91.4 percent respectively, Stevens County beats the statewide average slightly with an observed rate of 95.5 percent. At night from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM, that number soared to 56% of those killed.

More than 300 people were killed in Tennessee vehicle crashes past year while not wearing a seat belt.

Officers stress this campaign is not about writing more tickets but saving more lives.

Research has been found that lap/shoulder seat belts, when used, reduce the risk of fatal injury to front seat passenger vehicle occupants by 45% and the risk of moderate to critical injury by 50%. If a driver is stopped by an officer and occupants aren't wearing the proper restraints the seatbelt laws will be strictly enforced.
