Indonesian authorities said Wednesday they shot and killed four men who staged an attack on a police headquarters that left one officer dead and several wounded. Suddenly the militants exited the auto and immediately stage strikes with swords against policemen, provincial police spokesman Sunarto said. "People wearing masks alighted from a van and stabbed a police officer nearby", Doddy said as quoted by tribunnews.com.

Earlier, an internal police report said that one of the dead men had a suspected bomb strapped to his body.

"The one who escaped has been captured and secured at Pekanbaru police station", Wasisto said. A suicide bombing was also reported at the city's police headquarters on Monday when bike borne attackers blew themselves up at the check point to the precinct.

A footage showed that a man lying on the ground with a sword next to his body.

Riau Provincial Police Spokesperson AKBP Sunarto said two police officers were injured.

Wednesday's attack happened two days after a family of six suicide bombers, including teens and children, targeted three churches, killing at least 13 people and wounding 41 others in Surabaya, Indonesia's second largest city.

The attacks are the worst in the world's biggest Muslim-majority country since the bombing of tourist-packed restaurants in Bali in 2005.
