Shenmue 3 Delayed into 2019, Unsurprisingly

Publisher Deep Silver made the announcement, giving the usual reasons for why games get delayed.

Hopefully, by the time we see Shenmue 3 again, the game will be in much better shape than we saw previously.

Shenmue 3 was officially announced during Sony's E3 2015 presentation, with the game being developed using funds from a hugely successful Kickstarter campaign.

Shenmue 3 won't release this year as originally planned and instead will come out in 2019. To be honest, if it means a better game at launch, we're all for it. The scope of these games often extend far beyond what was initially imagined, especially when they smash their goals and in the case of Shenmue III, smash Kickstarter records.

"The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe", Deep Silver explained. A teaser trailer released back in 2017 was criticized for the bizarrely blank facial expressions of its characters. "We can not thank you enough for your enduring support". Fans have been waiting for well over a decade for this game to finally release, and these delays being thrown on top of that aren't making anything easier.

A crowdfunding campaign for the long-awaitedShenmue III was announced almost three years ago at E3 2015, and since then, we've seen numerous developer updates and release date shifts.
