Law Enforcement Torch Run begins in Hamburg to Benefit Special Olympics

Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run

Special Olympics South Dakota is near the end of their voyage across the state with the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run.

"The Palestine Police Department is proud to participate in such an outstanding event for such a worthy cause", Community Liaison Officer Michele Herbert-Reyes said.

For the 16th year in a row, law enforcement officers from throughout the state will rise to the occasion and support Special Olympics Illinois atop almost 300 Dunkin' Donuts rooftops on Friday, May 18, from 5 a.m. until noon.

The torch has been passed across the state by law enforcement officers for the last two weeks and will make its final resting stop by the State Summer Games Opening Ceremony at Emory University Friday at 7:30 pm.

Almost 100 kids take part in the Special Olympics torch procession at John F. Kennedy Memorial Park Wednesday along with their parents, teachers and supporters.

Donations to the event can be made here. Additional activities will vary by Dunkin' Donuts locations.

Special Olympics Georgia (SOGA) SOGA provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for almost 26,460 children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

Special Olympics Athlete Becky Cavanagh of Clarendon Hills added, "Eating donuts is my favorite part of Cop on a Rooftop".
