Barcelona have confirmed Samuel Umtiti has extended his contract until 2023, ending speculation the defender could leave the club. Partly because of that low buy-out fee, Umtiti has drawn attention from a number of top clubs around Europe - Manchester United were prepared to meet it to whisk him away to Old Trafford.
Barcelona have made an official statement to announce that they have reached an agreement with Samuel Umtiti to extend his current contract with the club.
"The Frenchman will be putting pen to paper on Monday in the Josep Sunol lounge at Camp Nou. About half an hour later, at around 10.30am, he will be speaking to the media in the Ricard Maxenchs pressroom".
Umtiti has been a success since joining from Lyon for £21.2m (€25m) in 2016, forming a formidable partnership with Gerard Pique at the heart of Barca's defence.
Umtiti will formally sign the five-year deal on Monday, before Barca hold a news conference.
However, he has committed his future to the team and there is no mention of what his new release clause is in the press release from Barcelona.
In that time, he has won one La Liga title as well as two Copas del Rey.
He was on target in Les Bleus 3-1 win against Italy on Friday, with Antoine Griezmann and Ousmane Dembele also on the scoresheet.
