A new trooper, Kevin Burch, was on patrol in Hickman County Friday morning when he saw a person near a woodline, according to Lt. Col. Dereck Stewart of the Tennessee Highway Patrol. He approached the suspect, who was considered armed and unsafe, with his service weapon drawn, but Wiggins was "totally obedient" as he was arrested, Stewart said. "It's at that point in time when he withdrew his weapon and ordered the suspect to get on the ground", Stewart said.
"The terrain is very rough out there - a lot of creeks, a lot of hills", Elwood said.
Wiggins was already wanted on several charges after he allegedly assaulted a woman and made off with her vehicle, the Kingston Springs Police Department said.
Baker, 32, will be buried at Dickson County Memorial Gardens.
Sergeant Daniel Baker was shot and killed Wednesday while responding to a report of a suspicious auto on Sam Vineyard Road.
Reports show that just before 7:00 o'clock Wednesday (5/30/2018) morning, a resident reported a suspicious vehicle on Sam Vineyard Road. He wouldn't detail what investigators believe happened next, but said the situation escalated.
Authorities lost communication with Baker, who was later found dead in his patrol vehicle a couple of miles away from the initial call. The deputy was found dead inside of it.
Sheriff Bledsoe referred to Baker as "one of the best". Baker leaves behind a wife and daughter. "There are no words to describe the level of devastation that myself and family are dealing with", Lisa Baker said in the statement. She also thanked the tight-knit community for their "outpouring support" and asked that they help make sure her daughter, Meredith, is always reminded of "how wonderful and awesome her father is".
"His service and dedication.to his country and community will always be remembered", Bledsoe read.
TBI spokeswoman Susan Niland said Wiggins was transported to a hospital in Dickson where he will be treated, released and then booked into the Dickson County jail.
A $15,000 reward was being offered for information that leads to Wiggins' capture.
Wiggins was wanted on multiple warrants at the time.
Sgt. Baker served the Dickson County community for 10 years, three months and 12 days. Wednesday night the TBI announced they arrested Erick Castro-Miles and charged her with first degree murder. "That's when he noticed the tattoos and was able to confirm that he met the overall description of the suspect that we've been looking for", Stewart told reporters at the press conference. Authorities allege that Wiggins shot Baker while Erika Castro-Miles sat in the vehicle with Wiggins, according to Castro-Miles' arrest affidavit.
According to the court papers, Castro-Miles fled the scene after the shooting and hid under a home until she was caught by police.
