There is no definite diagnosis on Vinnie's injury yet and we can only hope it isn't bad enough to keep the injury-prone City legend out of the World Cup.

However, he added: "If on 17 June, Vinny is not fit, he's not going to go to the World Cup".

Defender Vincent Kompany will require a scan to determine if he can play in the World Cup in Russian Federation after injuring his groin during Belgium's goalless draw with Portugal in a friendly on Saturday (June 2).

A Cristiano Ronaldo-less Portugal side withstood heavy pressure from Belgium to come away with a goalless draw.

The 32-year-old had been a doubt after he was forced off 54 minutes into his country's friendly with Portugal on Saturday, apparently with a groin injury.

There were concerns the centre-back could be left out Roberto Martinez's final group for Russian Federation, with FIFA having imposed a deadline of June 4 for every competing team to finalise their squad.

Martinez said he wanted to used the rules to his advantage regarding his skipper. "He said he felt discomfort in his groin when he walked off the pitch". He's not a young player, he knows his body.

Kompany was then withdrawn on the hour mark, hinting at an injury.

Belgium began with their strongest possible 11, apart from the injured Axel Witsel and Thomas Vermaelen, and a trial three-man defence.

"Vincent Kompany is a true leader", Martinez told the media.
