Division I mid-major. The Big East. The 65-year-old had at least one interview with Detroit Pistons officials about the National Basketball Association team's vacant coaching job and was rumored to be at the top of the list along with former Raptors coach Dwane Casey. And he has no intention of leaving Ann Arbor before retiring.

On Wednesday, Michigan head coach John Beilein announced on Twitter that he will continue coaching the Wolverines next season. He said Beilein pulled himself from consideration after speaking separately with Gores and Detroit management personnel.

Detroit is in search of a new head coach after parting ways with Stan Van Gundy last month.

"I love the University of MI", he tweeted Wednesday, his first public comments of any sort since the news of his interview with the Pistons surfaced.

The Wolverines are projected as a preseason top-25 team in 2018-19, Beilein's 12th season at the helm. His current contract runs through the 2020-21 season, paying him $3.37 million annually, with a new extension expected in the coming days.

Beilein and MI are finalizing a contract extension, according to Brendan Quinn of The Athletic.

"We are thrilled that John Beilein will be our coach now and into the future", athletic director Warde Manuel said in a statement.
