Trump Commutes Sentence of Alice Marie Johnson After Request From Kim Kardashian

Upon her release, the 63-year-old grandmother was overcome with emotion as she was met with family.

She said the President "felt it". Probably. Did he take the meeting with Kardashian West simply because he wanted to see her undercarriage up close?

"I had 100% clear conduct for the entire time, my entire time in prison, no disciplinary infractions", she said.

The White House said Alice Johnson had been a model prisoner and worked hard to rehabilitate herself. In response, Kardashian West took to Twitter to defend her husband, promising to "always ride for my man".

Ivanka Trump was one of the first people she reached out to about Johnson's case, Kardashian told CNN's Van Jones on Thursday.

"I just got off the most wonderful, emotional, and awesome phone call with Alice, Kim, and Alice's lawyers", Kardashian West's attorney Shawn Holley told Business Insider in a statement.

Alice Johnson was arrested in 1993 for taking part in a cocaine distribution ring. Shortly after their highly publicized meeting, Trump granted clemency to Johnson, who was released from prison earlier this week.

Johnson, who says she was denied clemency by President Barack Obama in 2016, told CBS's "This Morning", "I would tell President Trump thank you so much". I started screaming and crying and jumping.

Stephen Colbert acknowledged Wednesday during his show that President Donald Trump did the "right thing" in granting clemency to Alice Marie Johnson but expressed concerns about his reasons behind the decision.

"Her commutation is inspirational & gives hope to so many others who are also deserving of a second chance", she wrote on Twitter.

The commutation puts a renewed focus on the Trump administration's push for prison and sentencing reform, but which has sometimes clashed with the president's law-and-order approach, especially at the Justice Department.

And Kardashian said she tried to use her platform to help those who had been working on the case.

Donald Trump has now commuted Johnson's life sentence.

The president says he's considering a long list of other clemency actions, including for former IL governor Rod Blagojevich, who is serving 14 years in prison for corruption, and celebrity homemaker Martha Stewart, who served about five months for insider financial trading.
