"Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly hard time", said CNN. He was reportedly found in his hotel room by his long-time friend, the chef Eric Ripert, on Friday morning.

Culinary icon Anthony Bourdain of the popular CNN series Parts Unknown has died of apparent suicide while working in France.

Starting his career in various NY restaurants including the Supper Club and One Fifth Avenue, in 1998 Bourdain became executive chef at Brasserie Les Halles.

Bourdain was known as a "rockstar" of the culinary scene, as much to do with his time as the executive chef of Brasserie Les Halles in Manhattan as his exploration of the underbelly of the food world.

CNN announced Friday it will commemorate Anthony Bourdain with a special tribute and a marathon of "Parts Unknown", the travel, food and culture show he hosted on the network.

Bourdain famously savaged Food Network in its early days, but then wound up doing his first series, "A Cook's Tour", for the cabler in 2002-2003.

Bourdain first visited Manila in 2016 and returned past year to recruit food vendors who could be part of his street food market in NY.

"Is there anything you won't eat?"

The two also weren't shy about expressing their love for one another via social media.

Chef and television personality Anthony Bourdain arrives at the 65th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards in Los Angeles, California, Sept. 15, 2013.

"That was very shocking when I woke up this morning: "Anthony Bourdain is dead", President Donald Trump said.

Last year Bourdain told ABC News that he'd had a "live hard, die young" attitude when he was younger.
