Mr Trump and Mr Kim sit down with their respective delegations for the US-North Korea summit, following a private discussion that kicked off the historic meeting between the leaders.

One the eve of the talks, American officials maintained any resulting agreement must lead to an end of North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile threats.

In the hours before the summit began, Trump expressed optimism about prospects for the first-ever meeting of sitting USA and North Korean leaders, while Pompeo injected a note of caution whether Kim would prove to be honest about his willingness to denuclearise.

After the summit ended, Trump assessed that Kim had a "great personality" and is 'very smart - good combination'.

Singapore, the host country of the upcoming U.S.

However, it now appears that the U.S.is confident tings are going smoothly.

North Korea expert Zhang Liangui, a professor of global strategic research at the Communist Party's Central Party School, told The Straits Times Mr Kim might have sought help from the Chinese because of safety concerns about the condition of his jet.
