The Last of Us Part 2 was the first game to get the trailer treatment at Sony's E3 conference this year, though not after a short banjo number that outstayed its welcome a little. On top of that, enemies appear to be more coordinated now, and Naughty Dog's overhauled engine looks incredible. But now we have an intimate exchange between the game's main character and another woman, and it's played out in front of a massive, mainstream gaming audience. Oddly enough, Joel - the previous game's protagonist - has not appeared in the game yet. Most of the early marketing and teases of the game have focused on Ellie, both with her growth as a character and her growth in the world of The Last of Us. "We've completely overhauled our engine, developed new combat mechanics, created a new analog stealth system, and revamped our animation system to fully express Ellie's desperation, resourcefulness, and unique agility".
In The Last of Us Part II, Ellie is now 19 and has found a semblance of peace and normality living in Jackson. She walks over to Ellie, and it's not long before the girl - who we learn is named Dina - joins Ellie on the sidelines for a few moments before pulling her onto the dance floor for the next song.
