The end line came with Griezmann announcing that "I have made a decision to stay".
Atletico's top scorer each of the past three seasons, Griezmann, 27, wanted to end the speculation regarding his future before his France side faces Australia in its World Cup opener on Saturday. Spanish time (3:15 p.m. ET). It bore an uncanny resemblance to the notorious Lebron James documentary "The Decision", a TV special aired when James announced he was leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers for Miami Heat.
Several outlets reported that two versions of the video have been filmed, one with Griezmann announcing he will stay at Atletico and the other announcing a move to Barca.
The post was welcomed by Barcelona defender Gerard Pique, who encouraged his followers to watch the programme. France Football reported Griezmann will sign a new contract in Russian Federation at some point on Thursday.
Do you think Griezmann made the right decision?
The France striker had been heavily linked with a €100 million (£88 million) move to Barcelona this summer, having previous year been a reported target for Manchester United. The forward, who has been an integral part of Atletico Madrid in the last few seasons, has been on the radar of many big clubs like Manchester United and Barcelona this season.
"I'm so happy. I really appreciate the club's confidence in me", Gimenez said in a statement.
"They are doing everything they can to keep Atletico growing and so that they can play the Champions League final, hopefully at home [in 2019]".
