XXXTentacion began recording in 2013 and found mainstream success with his 2017 debut album 17, which hit No. 2 on the Billboard 200 and spawned some minor-hit singles. His ? album reached No. 1 on the Billboard charts, a circumstance which polarized the hip-hop community based on the allegations of abuse made against him by his ex-girlfriend.

Kanye West said "I never told you how much you inspired me when you were here".

XXXTentacion lived in Florida and is survived by two siblings - sister Arianna Drew Onfroy and brother Aiden Onfroy.

Travis Barker said he was at a "loss for words" at the death of his former collaborator, while Barker's daughter, Alabama, shared that she was in tears following the news.
