Sprint Follows Rivals By Complicating Its Unlimited Mobile Data Plans

Sprint adds an Unlimited plan without high-resolution video

Sprint's adding a $70/month unlimited plan and neutering its $60/month one

Now Playing: Watch this: Verizon gives heavy data users a new unlimited plan for. Sprint customers will experience the Network Built for Unlimited at the BEST Price.5 With more mobile broadband spectrum capacity than any USA carrier, Sprint's network is built to meet customers' growing demand for data. If you get five lines, it's $42 per month, per line. However, if customers bring in their own phone or buy a phone outright from Sprint, they can take a $20 per month discount.

What do you get for that money?

If you're not a fan of those restrictions, Sprint's more than happy to sell Unlimited Plus to you for $70/month.

The first line costs $70 per month with the second tacking on an extra $50.

Unlimited Plus includes: TV you love, with Hulu. The main price hike hits customers who want to watch streaming video at HD quality instead of being reduced to DVD quality. While roaming in Canada or Mexico, subscribers will get unlimited talk and text, and up to 10GB of 4G LTE data connectivity.

The new Unlimited Basic plan is far inferior to the existing $60 Unlimited Freedom plan. For a single line it's also cheaper than Unlimited Basic, $50/mo for line 1, $30/mo for line 2 and $10/mo/line for lines 3 to 5. In other words, a family of four pays $100 a month.

Sprint is altering its current "one unlimited plan" structure to feature two unlimited plans. As you might have expected, they are similar to Unlimited Freedom, only with a few tweaks here and there, plus all of the throttling and non-unlimited unlimitedness you would expect from a U.S. carrier. In addition, Unlimited Plus allows you to stream in Full HD and includes free subscriptions to Hulu and TIDAL. Verizon introduced the same flexibility recently when it reshuffled its unlimited offerings. And Sprint's 4G LTE network is the most improved in the US with national average download speeds up 30.9 percent year-over-year, more than any other national carrier.6 Sprint is making its largest network investment in years and its Next-Gen Network build is well underway. That level is now 50GB for all unlimited plans; previously, using 23GB in a month could have triggered a slowdown.

Sprint's Industry-Leading Unlimited Plans Just Got Even Better! The company will be splitting their current unlimited plan into two separate offerings. Even T-Mobile, which offers a single T-Mobile One unlimited plan, offers add-ons for HD video streaming and global travel that are essentially different plans.
