The streaming service secured 112 nominations, up from 34 in 2015 and led by programmes like The Crown and Stranger Things. That's up from a quarter of the field a year ago, when Brown ("This Is Us") and Glover ("Atlanta") won top acting awards.
While there was a major turnover in the best comedy series category this year, helped by the absence of three-time victor Veep and also involving the snub of five-time victor Modern Family, an even bigger seismic shift happened last year in the best drama series field.
It was a very strong freshman class, and all five shows are back this year.
All three Lannister siblings were also recognized, with Lena Headey earning her fourth Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role as Cersei while her on-screen brothers Peter Dinklage (Tyrion) and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime) picked up Best Supporting Actor nods. "Atlanta" will face newcomers including "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, " "Glow" and "Barry". Thursday's nomination puts his total at seven, breaking the record for most nominated performer in this category.
HBO is no piker: It claimed 108 bids. It was followed by NBC's sketch show "Saturday Night Live" and HBO's sci-fi series "Westworld" with 21 nominations each, and Hulu's dystopian vision "The Handmaid's Tale" with 20.
But the scandal appeared not to have tainted much-admired Tony victor and Oscar nominee Laurie Metcalf, Roseanne's sister Jackie in the show, who picked up her eighth nomination.

Lead actress in a drama series: Claire Foy (The Crown); Tatiana Maslany (Orphan Black); Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid's Tale); Sandra Oh (Killing Eve); Keri Russell (The Americans) and Evan Rachel Wood (Westworld).
The 70th Primetime Emmy Awards will air Monday, Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on NBC.
