Microsoft shares its Xbox plans for Gamescom

Microsoft's Major Nelson backtracks on promise of 'new Xbox hardware' at Gamescom

Microsoft's Major Nelson jumped the gun a little on would-be Xbox hardware news

Sony and Nintendo don't tend to announce anything new at Gamescom but Microsoft often do and a new blog by Major Nelson is promising to reveal "all-new Xbox hardware and accessories".

Update: It appears that the wording was changed from Major Nelson's post and now says "new Xbox One bundles and accessories" over in the post on Xbox Wire. After all, it was just last month at E3 2018 that Phil Spencer revealed that the Xbox team is hard at work making the next generation of Xbox-branded consoles.

But of course, Gamescom is more about new games and Microsoft will be showing off some of the upcoming Xbox titles at the conference.

That, as you can guess, sparked plenty of speculation about what that new hardware could be. So, while we're not in for any new consoles, perhaps we'll see a new limited edition Xbox One X or a new Elite controller?

Forza Horizon 4, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, and State of Decay 2's Daybreak Pack 2 are all name-checked, though.

In addition, the Xbox FanFest is returning to Gamescom this year. We'll find out when Microsoft holds its event on August 21 at 7:30am PT. After all, gamers love surprise announcements, and there are a ton of games Xbox could potentially demo at the show, plus rumored features like mod support. Hopefully Microsoft will announce the new controller and confirm the existence of the Fable reboot at Gamescom.

A live stream event is promise for 3.30pm BST on Tuesday, August 21, which is likely to be where the new accessories and bundles will be shown off for the first time.
