Could Adil Rashid be persuaded to make a return to Test cricket on the strength of his white-ball form?

England, who in limited-overs cricket are captained by Eoin Morgan, are now number one in the ODI rankings and among the favourites to win next year's World Cup on home soil.

Rashid is the leading wicket-taker in one-day and Twenty20 internationals for England this summer, with 25 victims, including Virat Kohli at Headingley on Tuesday with a sharply-turning delivery that left India's captain awestruck.

"Right now I'm focussing on white-ball cricket for Yorkshire. but if England do want me to be part of the squad for the test series against India then I'll consider it", Rashid wrote in his diary for Sky Sports.

The 20-year-old Pant, who has played four T20 Internationals for India, is renowned for his swashbuckling batting and will be the second choice keeper behind Dinesh Karthik in the squad named on Wednesday. "I'm not sure whether (chief selector) Ed Smith's had a chat with him or not".

Bhuvneshwar Kumar isn't available too for the first three Test matches and it is a big blow for India. "He's bowled well in one-day cricket over the last few years but his control and his consistency this year has been top class and probably the best I've seen him bowl since I've been here", Bayliss said. It was good fun and he deserved to get man of the series the way that he went out and guided us through, especially at Headingley. It's already happened once this year. "So, look I'm sure he'll be up for discussion definitely".

Kohli would have been aware of the injury concerns to both his limited-overs strike bowlers but put up a fearless face on Tuesday, when asked how ready India were for the Test series.

The selectors named the squad for only the first three matches of the five-Test series.

"It's something we are trying really hard to replicate within the Test team", Root said.

"He was not necessarily out of form but he had a lack of runs I suppose in the last month or two", said Bayliss.

The selection committee also selected the Board President XI team that is scheduled to play a three-day warm-up game against South Africa "A" in Belgaum from July 30.
