Liverpool's new midfielder Fabinho says his club can wrestle the Premier League title away from Manchester City while he tries to lure France star Kylian Mbappe to Anfield.

Fabinho cost the Reds a transfer fee in the region of £39m as Jurgen Klopp managed to improve his options in the middle of the park.

And the Brazilian told reporters about the newly minted World Cup victor with France: "Kylian Mbappe sent me a text message congratulating me for coming to Liverpool".

"I believe so", he said.

Even next summer may be far too early for Mbappe to even consider a move, but if and when he does, Fabinho is attempting to position Liverpool as an attractive destination.

Jurgen Klopp has significantly added to his squad this summer by bringing in Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Alisson Becker in addition to Fabinho, and the Brazil global is confident that the team can challenge reigning champions Manchester City.

"I have just started with my team-mates and I understand we have excellent players". He has a lot of ambition and is still very young - he's a very good player'.

Henderson is one of the last of Liverpool's World Cup players due to return to pre-season training after helping England reach the third-place play-off in Russian Federation.

For now though, Mbappe has no immediate plans to leave Paris Saint-Germain, who he joined from AS Monaco last summer, telling reporters after the World Cup final that he meant to stay put.

"What France did was fantastic".

The 21-year-old spent last season out on loan at Bundesliga side Freiburg and then Championship outfit Bristol City. What Mbappe has done in two years of professional football is incredible.

If Mbappe goes to Liverpool, it's because he feels that's the right move for him.

It was a hard fight to convince him that he needed a holiday.

"I have not had the chance to congratulate him yet on what he did winning the World Cup. If they need a leg behind, I'll assist behind".
