Warner Bros has debuted the first teaser trailer for the new Shazam! movie, based on the DC Comics character. Batson derives his heroic attributes by saying the phrase, "Shazam" which is an acronym of the ancient world gods and historical figures Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles and Mercury. The concept for the movie must have been great, considering how fast DC greenlit its production.
Here's the official synopsis for Shazam!
The footage was received very well by the audience in Hall H and in general came across as light-hearted and actually takes the piss about superhero tropes a bit too.
If you're unfamiliar with the classic superhero and/or not been following the coverage, Shazam the superhero is, in fact, a young boy named Billy Batson (played by Asher Angel), who transforms into an adult superhero (Chuck's Zachary Levi) when he yells "Shazam!" Still a kid at heart-inside a ripped, godlike body-Shazam revels in this adult version of himself by doing what any teen would do with superpowers: have fun with them!
Shazam! stars Zachary Levi in the form of adult Shazam. Can he shoot lightning out of his hands? However, this is the first superhero movie that he is the star of, so this is certainly a big step up for him.
We've seen the costume, we've seen to promo pics, but at long last, Warner Bros. showed Shazam in action at Comic-Con 2018. And while it is clearly set in the DC Extended Universe (one character is a superhero enthusiast and has his own Superman and Batman collections), it's a clear and confident case of course correction. Grace Fulton, Cooper Andrews, Jack Dylan Grazer, Ian Chen, Jovan Armand and Faithe Herman are also on board, with Mark Strong as the villainous Doctor Sivana, a frequent foe of Shazam who first appeared opposite the superhero in the pages of Whiz Comics back in 1940.
