Torchlight series returns with shared-world action-RPG Torchlight Frontiers

Perfect World will reveal more information about the game at unspecified date in the future.

When Runic Games first announced Torchlight, there was undeniable excitement surrounding the project namely because of who was behind it: Travis Baldree together with Max and Erich Schaefer, the latter two being the co-founders of Blizzard North and also the creators of Diablo.

As for Schaefer, he's confident that Frontiers represents a positive evolution of the Torchlight universe.

In fact, out of the blue Perfect World Entertainment announced Torchlight Frontiers, in development at Echtra Games, a San Francisco-based game studio founded in early 2016 by former Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer.

When Torchlight and Hob developer Runic Games was shut down previous year, the developer said: "For those that love the Torchlight series, there will be some news coming".

Despite the closure, Perfect World promised it was "committed to supporting and growing Runic Games' beloved franchises".

Details about the game are scarce at the moment, but it will continue to exist in the same universe as its predecessors.

Torchlight Frontiers will be released in 2019 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC?

Set in the same beloved Torchlight universe from Torchlight I and II, this shared-world action RPG brings back numerous franchise's signature features and mechanics that captured the hearts of action RPG fans around the world.

No gameplay is shown in the Torchlight Frontiers trailer. "The team is building something truly special, and we can't wait for fans to play it for the first time at Gamescom and PAX West", he said. However, the video's description says that the game is set in a "persistent and dynamically generated world" where people are online and interacting with one another to fight enemies and fight treasures.
