He said Maryam Nawaz had told the Panama Joint Investigation Team (JIT) that she is her father's dependent.

Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Mariam have been freed by the Islamabad High Court.

A two-judge bench comprising Justice Athar Minallah and Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb delivered its ruling on petitions filed by the Sharif family against the Avenfield reference ruling.

NAB's prosecutor argued law turns onus of proof on accused after ownership of flats [by Sharifs] has been established. Likewise, the deed declaring Maryam Nawaz trustee was also proved fake.

Sharif resigned as Pakistan prime minister past year after the Supreme Court disqualified him from holding public office and ruled that graft cases be filed against the beleaguered leader and his children over the Panama Papers scandal.

On July 6, the accountability court had sentenced Nawaz Sharif to ten years in prison for owning assets beyond income in the Avenfield corruption case and had added one year to the sentence for not cooperating with the National Accountability Bureau.




The Islamabad High Court made the decision after the Sharifs petitioned to appeal their sentences, handed down by an anti-graft tribunal earlier this year in a corruption case against them.

Nawaz Sharif was convicted under section 9 (a)(5) of the NAB ordinance.

The court suspended the sentences of Sharif and his daughter Maryam after they were convicted in July just before Pakistan held its general election.

They were charged with corrupt practices linked to the Sharif family's ownership of luxury flats in London.

13 July 2018: Upon their arrival from the UK, Sharif, Maryam and Safdar were sent to the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi. A team of doctors conducted the medical checkup of both the accused and declared them fit. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has alleged that Sharif has been kept in the abysmal condition in the jail and deprived of even the basic facilities.
