Joaquin Phoenix's full Joker look for the standalone film as been revealed and it's freaking us out. And though this is just a rough glimpse at it without any post-production touch-ups, it's clear that the team's going for a Cesar Romero look, who played Mr. J on the Batman TV show from the '60s. The footage doesn't show much but it does give us a look at Phoenix sporting some eerily familiar Clown makeup.
Warner Bros. has said the Phoenix feature will have no effect on its DC Universe, which saw Jared Leto playing the Joker in "Suicide Squad". It definitely feels very reminiscent of the mask Heath Ledger wears in the opening moments of The Dark Knight. The song used is fitting with the Guess Who's "Laughing". Phillips' exploration of Arthur, a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale. It could be that this is Joker in an earlier part of his personal transformation, given that this film is an origin story. It's messy, though not as insane death-metal as that sported by Heath Ledger's version of the DC Comics villain.
