OnePlus 6 has become the first smartphone of the Chinese mobile phone manufacturer to receive the final stable version of the latest Android OS; Android 9.0 Pie, recently released by Google. The stable Android 9.0 update comes in the form of OxygenOS 9.0, and brings new features like a refreshed Do Not Disturb mode, gaming mode, and accent colour customisations. The update also includes Adaptive Battery support, which was introduced in Android Pie, that intelligently detects and learns from your usage patterns of apps and prevents the battery from draining. Another smartphone brand to achieve such a feat is HMD Global' Nokia which has officially declared that it will launch the new Android Pie 9.0 update once it is available throughout its new Android series of smartphones starting Nokia 2 (chances of Nokia 1 receiving the updates are slim). It brings in a new UI along with adaptive battery support and Android Pie navigation gestures.
Background: OnePlus has been getting better at updating its smartphones, so it's not a huge surprise to see this update coming out so soon after Android Pie launched. The new Gaming Mode 3.0 will show notifications for text messages as well as 3rd party calls.
OnePlus also confirms again the OTA will be a staged rollout.
OnePlus confirmed that since it's a phased out update, some users will receive it today, while other might have to wait for a few days.
If you've received the OTA update be sure to let us know in the comments! Going forward, all the upcoming OxygenOS update versions will match the Android update versions. "Using VPN to download this build may not work because the implementation is not based on areas of the globe and is randomly transferred to a limited number of devices", said Manu J, a member of the Beta Program staff.
