Desperate times call for desperate measures, so the San Francisco 49ers will begin replacing Jimmy Garoppolo by working out Tom Savage, per Jordan Schultz of ESPN. He is expected to miss the remainder of the season. Following the game, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan told reporters that the team feared Garoppolo had torn ACL and today's MRI revealed the devastating news.
Savage also started in seven of those games, as Houston relied on him to orchestrate the team's passing attack in lieu of Deshaun Watson, who suffered a season-ending injury in November.
According to NBC, the 49ers medical staff was looking at the left leg of the $137.5 million quarterback, who was soon carted off the field. Beathard is now the only other quarterback on San Francisco's roster, so he'll presumably start in Garoppolo's absence barring a trade or free-agent signing.
Yates threw for four touchdowns and three interceptions in four games for Houston in 2017. After playing Sunday without fellow starter Ahkello Witherspoon and appearing entirely out of sorts during a noncompetitive first half, Robert Saleh's "D" visits a unsafe Bolts' WR corps including Comeback Player of the Year Keenan Allen and ascending Mike Williams, the seventh overall pick last year, coming off his first two-TD game.
