His goal against Everton in the Premier League was voted as the best goal scored in the world from last season, a shock result.

Mohamed Salah picked up the Puskas Award at the Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in London on Monday night, but that will be of little consolation for his fans as he strangely missed out on the FIFA FIFpro World XI.

The Egyptian's goal beat acrobatic strikes from Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale as well as Denis Cheryshev's wonder effort.

Even James Milner couldn't resist a dig while congratulating his Liverpool teammate...

According to supersport.com, the Liverpool and Egypt forward bagged the award for his strike against Everton, which saw him wriggle past three defenders before curling home.

When told about Salah's start to this season compared to last, boss Jurgen Klopp sarcastically said: "Wow, that's a crisis".

He suggested the goal was just Salah's seventh best goal he scored last season.

Meanwhile, former Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois won the goalkeeper of the year prize, beating Leicester's Kasper Schmeichel and Hugo Lloris of Tottenham Hotspur and World Cup-winning France.

Many were unimpressed with the decision to hand the award to Salah.
